IGT Game Reviews

IGT is a company which provides a huge number of different products and solutions, all across the gambling industry. Lottery ticket terminals, scratch cards, video poker machines, fixed odds betting terminals and other similar products are all major revenue streams for the company. However, it’s the slot machine games we’re interested in so lets take a closer look at what they’ve got on offer.

IGT have five unique gaming studios around the world, which all work to produce slots titles for their land-based terminals and for the online gambling industry, as well as occasionally transitioning titles from one realm to the other.

According to IGT, that setup allows them to produce some of the industry’s top-performing games, including well-known branded titles. All of the company’s games are built in HTML5 so that they can be played both via desktop and on mobile devices of all operating systems. IGT’s portfolio of games, too, includes many of the mini-games which are featured on leading bingo and keno sites.

Aside from those mini-games, IGT currently supply a total of around 150 different slots titles for the online gambling industry – spreading what we’d describe as a competitive payout percentages (92-98% range).

IGT Payout Percentages: Compared

All slot machine software providers offer a range of payout percentages across their slots depending on what in game features are present and what betting options the player chooses.

IGT are no different topping out at a return to player percentage of 97.35% on the Texas Tea slot but dipping as low as 92.53% on Siberian Storm Duel Play.

When you look at how IGT slot machine payout percentages compare to other brands in the industry it’s safe to say that they sit somewhere near the top of the pile BUT their average 95.15% RTP is considerably lower than that of PlayNGo and Netent.

If you stick to just their top titles, then you’re getting about as good a deal as you will with anyone but drop into the lower range and things can start to tilt a little too far into the casino’s favour.

About IGT (International Game Technology)

IGT, or International Game Technology PLC to give the company its full and official name, describe themselves as the…

‘world’s leading end-to-end gaming company’.

Listed on the main New York Stock Exchange, the company employs over 12,000 people around the world and has major offices in Las Vegas, Providence (Rhode Island), London and Rome.

Undoubtedly one of the true giants of the gambling industry, IGT have fingers in almost every pie imaginable when it comes to gaming, betting and gambling. The firm are one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of video lottery terminals, betting terminals, lottery ticket machines and other related hardware, as well as developing and providing slot machine games and other software.

What’s more, the company’s diverse offerings also extend into the worlds of sports betting, bingo and poker, amongst others. According to IGT, therefore, they are…

‘uniquely positioned to provide the government-sponsored and commercial gaming, lottery, interactive and social, through every channel across the spectrum, including retail, web and mobile’.

Company History:

With an established presence in over 100 countries and an annual research and development budget of $300 million, IGT really are a major global player in today’s gambling industry. The story of how they reached such lofty heights, however, is an interesting one which encompasses the history of three separate and diverse companies.

That story begins first in the USA in 1976, when the company which would soon become Gtech was originally founded. That company got in on what was essentially the ground floor of the lottery industry in the USA, quickly established a foothold and grew rapidly to become a leading light in the field.

In 1988, they moved into the international market by serving the Irish lottery and in 1994 were responsible for the installation of all of the terminals related to the UK’s newly launched National Lottery. In 2007, a number of commercial acquisitions – including that of major company Finsoft – saw Gtech move into the sports betting world and continue to grow apace.

All the while, also in the USA, a company called IGT had been growing and developing since that name was adopted in 1981 by company founder William ‘Si’ Redd. That company cut its teeth manufacturing mechanical reel slot machines and quickly became a major force in that and related industries.

Thanks to a number of acquisitions and no little organic growth, by the late 1980s IGT was one of the largest companies in the gambling industry and started to diversify its activities. In 1986, IGT introduced the world’s first wide area progressive jackpot slot system and in 1996 moved into the area of video poker in a big way. The formation of IGT Interactive in 2010, meanwhile, signalled an intention for IGT to also corner the online gambling market.

The third strand to the story of IGT as we know it today traces its origins back to Italy in 1990. It was there and then that a collection of businesses merged to form the Lottomatica Consortium. They focussed their early activities on providing automated lotto services and soon grew to be their country’s leading supplier of such services.

The Lottomatica Consortium became listed on the Italian Stock Exchange in 2001 and started to broaden its portfolio of products and services in earnest, in the following years. In 2003, the consortium moved into the football pools industry and just a few years later became the first company to be awarded an online games licence in Italy.

That awarding of Lottomatica’s online licence in 2007 came just a year after they had acquired Gtech in 2006 and adopted the US company’s name as their own. The expanded Gtech then merged with IGT in 2015, taking the latter’s name and creating the massive end-to-end global gaming company that is the modern-day IGT.
